My parents instilled in me a compassion for others and a sense of duty to act in ways that help society. For much of my early life, this meant regular acts of volunteering, and treating others with dignity and respect. When I arrived at university, I joined a community service organization and my understanding of the people and world around me shifted dramatically. I learned of food deserts in my city leading to unequal access to grocery stores and fresh produce. I helped to build houses for people experiencing homelessness and for whom homeownership was out of reach. During a semester studying in Venice, Italy I learned of the ecological damage affecting cities globally due to overtourism and lack of sustainability measures. These experiences helped me to understand the limits to individual level action and the need for collective action to solve the complex challenges we face globally. Today, I am committed to enabling sustainable development and shared prosperity through policy action, sound investment, and economic cooperation.
